Service Animals are covered by the ADA to bring into public establishments, Emotional Support Animals are not.
Both Service Animals and Emotional Support Animals are allowed in apartments and condos with a 'no pet' policy.
Service Animals are Specially trained, Emotional Support Animals are not.
The Primary function of an Emotional Support Animal is to provide support through companionship.
Neither Service Animals or Emotional Support Animals must be certified or registered.

Service Animals in Retail

Service animals are not pets. You can ask:
1. Is the Service Animal required because of a disability?
2. What work or task has the animal been trained to perform?
Service Animals must be under the control of the handler or the animal can be asked to be removed while the customer can continue shopping.

Accessible Shopping: Service Animals
